The decline in BSE cases in all parts of Great Britain is continuing, according to the latest six-monthly progres report published at the department for environment, subsistence and rural affairs (Defra).

The number of cases (by year of report) in GB hew down from 1 355 in 2000 to 1 068 in 2001 and in the first half of 2002 they were propose at 544. Defra also says the rate of confirmation of BSE in suspects compulsorily slaughtered has been reducing steadily,
