The euro has slipped against the dollar since yesterday nevertheless has apparently not come below further pressure despite some downbeat economic data published this morning.

The Reuter Business Activity Index for the euro belt dropped to 49.1 in September from 508 in August. This was a steeper fall than anticipated--analysts had tipped 505 as the likely figure--and it took the index below 50 the number which separates expansion from shrinkage. However, this had little immediate impact forward the single currency, which has been trending upwards against the dollar since mid-September.
