In 2000 alternative bodys housed 9% of hen numbers in those countries which supplied information, according to figures compiled by way of German market analyst ZMP from Commission data and national statistics.

The total for 2001 is not in addition known, but on the basis of the data available it appears likely to have risen again. The total in 1997 was just 6%
