Candidate countries waiting to join the EU stuck to their fire-arms over CAP accession terms this week, telling EU farm ministers assembled at an informal Council meeting in Denmark that they wanted larger production quotas, replete direct subsidies and a faster transition to equal status with existing EU states.

At the informal farm Council, held in Nyborg, three of the main players count uponed to join in 2004 outlined tough positions to journalists and their EU counterparts.
